What’s next, and what we won’t build.
What’s switching on next, what’s ready for laws that haven’t started yet, and what we’ve decided Latchkey shouldn’t do.

What’s on the way.
-
Coming soon
Built and tested in Latchkey, and next to switch on.
-
Rent collected through your own Stripe account
Tenants pay by Direct Debit, Pay by Bank or card, and the money goes straight to you. Today, Latchkey matches standing orders from your bank statement.
-
Bank feeds
Your bank’s payments arriving four times a day, with rent matched to tenancies. Today, import a statement and every line is matched the same way.
-
Making Tax Digital, sent straight to HMRC
Latchkey already prepares your quarterly updates and final declaration, split between co-owners by share. Next, they go to HMRC in one click.
-
Xero and QuickBooks, kept up to date
Each entry in your books copied to your accountant’s Xero or QuickBooks, tagged by property. Today, download ready-made import files from Books.
-
Adverts on Rightmove, Zoopla and OnTheMarket
Listings sent to the portals, with enquiries arriving as applicants. Today, every listing has its own page with an enquiry form.
-
Deposits protected without leaving Latchkey
Registration with TDS, the DPS or mydeposits done from the tenancy. Today, Latchkey writes the scheme’s bulk upload file and tracks the 30 day deadline.
-
References and digital Right to Rent checks
References through Goodlord and identity checks through Yoti, ordered from the applicant’s page. Share code checks are guided today.
-
-
Ready for the law
Built ahead of a date set by the government.
-
The PRS Database
Your registration numbers, regions and deadlines are tracked now. The database is due to open region by region from 15 December 2026, starting with the West Midlands. No way to send to it has been announced, so you type the number in.

-
Next up
On the plan after the connections above.
-
Text messages to tenants
Urgent notices by text as well as email and the tenant app.
-
Scotland
Private residential tenancies, with their own notices and tribunal, for landlords letting north of the border.
-
Six things we’ve decided against.
-
Multi-currency
Latchkey is for property let in England and Wales, so everything is in pounds. Adding other currencies would make every figure harder to trust for a market it isn’t written for.
-
Multi-language
The wording names England and Wales law: the Renters’ Rights Act, Awaab’s Law and the Tenant Fees Act. A translation would read as if those rules applied somewhere they don’t.
-
Tenant to tenant messaging
A chat for a whole building needs someone to moderate it. Your notices to tenants already cover announcements.
-
Rewards and cashback
Every version we’ve looked at is a referral fee presented as a benefit to the tenant.
-
Rent advance and deposit replacement
Both are credit. We won’t sell credit inside a rent app to somebody who is already behind with their rent.
-
A cheaper plan with the accounting removed
Your books are what rent, arrears and tax figures are worked out from. A version without them would give you worse numbers.
